… And it’s NOT The Google Keyword Tool!
Every internet and digital marketer will, at some point in their busy schedule, need to perform keyword or keyphrase research – be that to set up or refine a targeted pay-per-click campaign, drive a website’s search engine optimization or to strategically target blog posts and product reviews for a niche-relevant affiliate marketing program. To help them achieve the best results, marketers employ keyword research tools that enable them to find those fruitful keyphrases that we all typically use to find what we need from search engines like Google and Bing.
Armed with the detailed data these tools provide, marketers can then target and optimize their online ads, website pages and posts to ensure that they feature highly in the search listings – and ideally on page one. But these research tool typically cost money or require monthly subscriptions – which can be expensive. Conversely, finding good free keyword research tools has always been a massive problem for such marketing folk… until now that is!
How to find keywords for a website – you get what you pay for!
The biggest problem with keyword research tools is that they all fall into that old adage – you get what you pay for. OK… I hear many readers at this point disagreeing with that statement, shouting out loud to me that old favorite – the Google Keyword Planner tool. And yes, I’d agree with them. The Google Keyword Planner tool is certainly one of the few tools out there providing a good source of keyword and keyphrase stats. And yes, it will certainly help you plan an effective PPC campaign. But hold fire for one minute. As a tool set up for use to create Google AdWords campaigns (the Google PPC platform), the Google Keyword Planner is therefore not so good for helping you perfect your search engine optimization or your affiliate marketing keyword research. Though truth be known, most of us have used it for this too – simply because there was never any free alternative.
The other problem with the Keyword Planner is that it’s data is only based on Google’s own data – but not that of Bing, Yahoo and others. Whilst Google is, of course, by far and the most significant search engine out there, and therefore holds the most gravitas, we should not forget that Bing and Yahoo certainly have around 33% of the search market – correct at the time of writing!
You should also keep in mind that the search metrics are also rounded up or down for search traffic results that are less than around 50 per month.
But hey, the Google Keyword Planner is free and has, for some time, provided us with at least an idea of traffic for particular phrases or sets of keywords in Google search engine results pages – or SERPs as they are more commonly known.
Jaaxy – keyword research reinvented
I’ve talked a lot about the pros and cons of the Google Keyword Planner tool in this post. However, there is a new kid in town… and another fantastic free tool that takes keyword research to another level – not only for the PPC manager, but the SEO specialist and affiliate marketer too. Best of all, the Starter level product is absolutely free and yet still provides so much more that any other keyword research tool out there – including many of the paid-for services!
This relatively new online tool, Jaaxy, is now giving digital marketers the edge over their competitors. To paraphrase a quote from the Jaaxy website:
Jaaxy is the most advanced and useful keyword research platform in the world, managing keyword research for your website, your competition and your market research.
As a convert and now active user myself, I can vouch that in my experience Jaaxy provides me with the most accurate keyword metrics and insights for website traffic, competition and domains. And trust me, I’ve used most of them out there!
In just seconds, you can find new ‘golden nugget’ keywords that deliver unique, untapped, high traffic to your website. It also enables you to truly hone your search engine optimization (SEO) and pay-per-click (PPC) campaigns and make them even more effective and efficient, ensuring a much improved return on investment (ROI). What’s more Jaaxy analyses traffic data from all the major search engines, including Google, Bing and Yahoo, to deliver its results… something no other free tool out there can do!
But don’t just take my word for it – give it a try yourself using the widget below…
What does a Starter level account give you?
Jaaxy offers four levels of service – for more information about each level, check out my Jaaxy review HERE. But the free Starter account provides the marketer with some great keyword research tools, which includes:
You’ll also notice that Jaaxy also offers a Jaaxy Lite account, which comes with a number of additional extras – all free of charge. However, Jaaxy Lite is only available to Wealthy Affiliate Premium members. So for serious affiliate marketers, Jaaxy Lite is a great option as it offers a range of great additional advanced features – over and above that of the Starter package.
Track your keywords’ progress in search engines
One of the things I love most about Jaaxy is SiteRank, a unique system that allows you to monitor the performance of all of your websites’ keywords in Google, Bing and Yahoo. In fact, I use this myself to trace my sites’ rankings and ranking fluctuations. What’s more, Jaaxy immediately notifies me of any significant ranking performance changes to any of the keywords I want to rank highly for. This information is invaluable to me and other digital marketers as it allows us to keep a real-time track on SEO performance and make instant adjustments as and when required, without fear of loss in search engine rank.
Affiliate marketing keyword research made easy
There are billions upon billions of internet niches out there – most of which remain untapped by affiliate marketers! That means that there is wealth of unrealized opportunity just waiting to be taken advantage of.
I can now realize these unfound niches and gather metrics through the use of Jaaxy’s inbuilt tools such as Brainstorm, Alphabet Soup and Affiliate Search. Each tool is a key tool in my research armoury and allows me to find those valuable niches that are just gold dust to affiliate marketers across the world. I know that as an affiliate marketer, it gives me that extra level of unknown data that gets me to the niches that other affiliate marketers simply cannot find using tools like the Google Keyword Planner.
So whether I’m researching a whole new niche or digging deeper on an existing niche, Jaaxy really gives me the upper hand over all of my fellow marketers.
How to find keyword competition
For me, one of Jaaxy’s most redeeming features is the ability to probe into your competition’s online strategies. I can now see and understand how and why my competitors’ websites rank in the way they do. It also gives me useful data and insights about the structure of their websites, their metadata information, the content quality and length, backlink details, ad placements and a host of other previously little-known competitor information.
Then armed with this information, I am able to firstly emulate these strategies and then, in most cases, surpass them with more refined website code and data, that’s SEO optimized and structured in a way that the search engines love.
If you too are a Jaaxy user, I’d love to hear about what you think about it. Do your prefer it? Do you know of any other good free keyword research tools out there. If so, please leave your comments below.
